Aim & Scope
Eskiyeni aims to contribute to the sharing of information about the field at the national and international levels by publishing original research articles and book reviews in Turkish and English.
Eskiyeni has a scope that covers religion, philosophy, history, and sociology disciplines from social sciences and humanities. It is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal published two times a year in March and September. The target group of the Journal consists of academicians, professionals, students, related and academic bodies, and institutions.

3) The subjects covered in the manuscripts submitted to the Journal for publication must be in accordance with the aim and scope of the Journal.
4) Only those manuscripts approved by every individual author and that were not published before in or sent to another journal are accepted for evaluation.
5) The author(s) retains unrestricted copyrights and publishing rights.
6) Eskiyeni accepts paper submissions from researchers with only doctoral degrees in research articles and book reviews.
7) The manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with Instructions for authors.
8) Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to the journal website.
9) The manuscript should be written in Gentium Plus font with 9.5 points and footnotes with 8.5 points using the Eskiyeni Manuscript Template in Microsoft Word.
10) Manuscripts that far exceed the 8,000-word maximum be turned back without review.
11) Manuscripts that do not use the ISNAD Citation Style be turned back without review.
12) The submitted manuscript should contain 250-300 words of Turkish abstract, English abstract, and at least 5 Turkish and English keywords.
13) All expenses of the journal are covered by the publisher. Processing and publication are free of charge with the journal. There is no article processing charges or submission fees for any submitted or accepted articles.
14) Changing the name of an author (omission, addition, or order) in papers submitted to the Journal requires the written permission of all declared authors.
1. Basics
Put a single hyphen (-) with space before and after between two authors’ names.Example:
Bekir Topaloğlu - İlyas Çelebi, Kelâm Terimleri Sözlüğü (İstanbul: İSAM Yayınları, 4. Edition, 2015), 55.
The authors whose first and last names are not separated, such as Ömer Seyfettin and Ahmed Cevdet Paşa, are entered into EndNote by adding one single comma (,) at the end of name. In Zotero, they are entered as they are without any punctuation mark.

If you cite more than one source by the same author successively in the same footnote, use the abbrivation “Id. (the same person)” in the place of the author’s first and last name in subsequent references.

As a general rule, the main elements of the citation in footnote are separated with comma (,), and in biblioghraphy with dot (.).
If you cite two or more sources by different authors, put semicolons (;) between your references to separate them from each other.
Example: Author’s last name, title of work, page; Author’s last name, title of work, page.
The abbreviation “p.” is not used to indicate page.
The abbreviation “vol.” is not used to indicate volume number. Use a slash (/) between volume and page number.

Roman numerals are not used to indicate volume number.

Part numbers in the volumes of works consisting of two parts are indicated in parentheses.
Example: al-Muġnī 6(1)/33-34; al-Muġnī 6(2)/121; MEB İslam Ansiklopedisi 5(1)/13.
In citing articles use a slash (/) between volume and page number of the journal.
Example: Cumhuriyet İlahiyat Dergisi 19/1 (June 2015), 23.
Number of editions of a work is indicated as “x. Edition”, without using the abbreviation “ed.”. This information is stated in bibliography before publication date. No need to indicate first edition of a work as “1. Edition”.
In softwares such as EndNote and Zotero, number of editions is written only with numbers; Dot and the word “Edition” (. Edition) are not written. For studies where no edition information is found, do not write “No Edition Number”.

Titles of works (like Book, Kournal, Encyclopedia, Dictionary, Manuscript, Thesis & Dissertation, Report, Newspaper etc.) should be italicized. Do not shorten titles of works with the abbreviations “Ibid” or “Id.”. Instead, use a proper “Short Title” by shortening title of work properly.

Book Cahapters, Dictionary Articles, Encyclopedia Articles, Article Titles, Paper Titles, Social Media Posts, TV Broadcasts and Musical Pieces should be written indouble-quote.
In citing publications like Book Chapters, Published Meeting Papers and Encyclopedia Articles in bibliography, page range should be indicated before printing information, not at the end.

URL is added only in bibliography. Writing it in footnote causes difficulties in typesetting work. No colon (:) is added after the word “Access”. Likewise, no dot is added after URL. Adding dot to the end of URL can lead to its failure.
When saving volume and edition number to softwares such as EndNote and Zotero, the words “Volume” and “x. Edition” are not typed. These are already included in the template.
Article DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number is saved to EndNote library as 10.18505/cuifd.12582 without the extention https://doi.org/, since it is already included in the template.
Publication dates of classical sources are indicated as A.H./A.D. “534/1139”.

2.9. Book-Critical Edition
Critical edition is the attempt to reach out the original form of a manuscript based on its different copies. When citing a critical edition of a book in the field of Social Sciences, the abbreviation “Critical ed.” is added before the name of its critical editor. (Example: Abū Isḥāq al-Ṣaffār, Talkhīṣ al-adilla, Critical ed. Angelika Brodersen). In academic writing systems such as APA, MLA and Chicago, the expression “Edited by” or the abbreviation “ed.” is preferred instead of “critical edition”. (Example: Abū Isḥāq al-Ṣaffār, Talkhīṣ al-adilla, ed. Angelika Brodersen). In fact, a critical edition of a work is different than an editorial publication; therefore, we need to differentiate between the two by using a distinguishing abbreviation. For this reason, in the ISNAD Citation Style, it is required to use the abbreviation “Critical ed.” when citing a critical edition of a work in English academic wrintings, and the abbreviation “thk.” (for taḥqīq) in Turkish.First Reference Author’s First and Last Name, Title of Book, Critical ed. Ethical Principles and Publication Policy
Publication Policy
1) Eskiyeni provides a space for original and interdisciplinary academic contributions on the issues of national and international interest. It covers the disciplines of religion, philosophy, history, and sociology from social sciences and humanities.
2) Only manuscripts prepared in Turkish and English are accepted for the journal. Articles are accepted between 01 October and 01 January for the issue of 20 March and between 01 April and 01 June for the issue of 20 September.
3) The subjects covered in the manuscripts submitted to the Journal for publication must be in accordance with the aim and scope of the Journal.
4) Only those manuscripts approved by every individual author and that were not published before in or sent to another journal are accepted for evaluation.
5) The author(s) retains unrestricted copyrights and publishing rights.
6) Eskiyeni accepts paper submissions from researchers with only doctoral degrees in research articles and book reviews.
7) The manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with Instructions for authors.
8) Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to the journal website.
9) The manuscript should be written in Gentium Plus font with 9.5 points and footnotes with 8.5 points using the Eskiyeni Manuscript Template in Microsoft Word.
10) Manuscripts that far exceed the 8,000-word maximum be turned back without review.
11) Manuscripts that do not use the ISNAD Citation Style be turned back without review.
12) The submitted manuscript should contain 250-300 words of Turkish abstract, English abstract, and at least 5 Turkish and English keywords.
13) All expenses of the journal are covered by the publisher. Processing and publication are free of charge with the journal. There is no article processing charges or submission fees for any submitted or accepted articles.
14) Changing an author's name (omission, addition, or order) in papers submitted to the Journal requires written permission of all declared authors.
15) This journal checks for plagiarism. Plagiarism, duplication, fraud authorship/denied authorship, research/data fabrication, salami-slicing/salami publication, breaching of copyrights, and prevailing conflict of interest are unethical behaviors. All manuscripts not in accordance with the accepted ethical standards will be removed from publication. This also contains any possible malpractice discovered after the publication.
16) Double-Blind Peer-Review: After the plagiarism check, the eligible ones are evaluated by the editors-in-chief for their originality, methodology, the importance of the subject covered, and compliance with the journal scope. The editor provides a fair double-blind peer review of the submitted articles and hands over the papers matching the formal rules to at least two national/international referees for evaluation (See. Peer-review Process).
17) Publication Decision: If the referees deem it necessary, changes are made by the author. The Editorial Board decides whether to publish the text corrected by the author.
18) The pre-review and peer review process takes an average of 16 weeks from article submission.
19) The Editorial Board of Eskiyeni journal has decided to publish the referee reports of all the articles published as of Issue 46 by hiding the names of the referees.
20) Permanent article identifier: Published articles are assigned DOI as a permanent article identifier.
21) Articles published in this journal are digitally archived in LOCKSS. The LOCKSS system has permission to collect, preserve and present this access Archive Unit.
The journal adheres to national and international standards in research and publication ethics. It complies with the Press Law (a), the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works (b), and the Regulation on Scientific Research and Publication Ethics in Higher Education Institutions (c). It has also committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and pays regard to Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (d) published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).
The press law has been published on the Official Gazette in Turkey on 26 June 2004. The purpose of the press law is to arrange freedom of the press and the implementation of this freedom.
The Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works has been published in the Official Gazette in Turkey on 13 December 1951.
The Regulation on Scientific Research and Publication Ethics in Higher Education Institutions has been gone into effect with General Assembly Resolution numbered 2016.23.497,
Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing,
Correction, Retraction, Expression of Concern
Editor should consider publishing correction if minor errors that do not effect the results, interpretations and conclusions of the published paper are detected. Editor should consider retraction if major errors and/or misconduction that invalidate results and conclusions are detected. Editor should consider issuing an expression of concern if there is evidence of research or publication misconduct by the authors; there is evidence that the findings are not reliable and institutions of the authors do not investigate the case or the possible investigation seems to be unfair or nonconclusive. The guidelines of COPE and ICJME are taken into consideration regarding correction, retractions or expression of concern.
Plagiarism Action Plan and Journal Precautions
The journal respects intellectual property and aims to protect and promote the original work of its authors. Articles containing plagiarism are against the standards of quality, research, and innovation. Therefore, all authors who submit articles to the journal are expected to comply with ethical standards and avoid plagiarism in any form. If an author is suspected of plagiarism in a submitted or published article, the journal's Ethics Editor reviews the work first. This work is then reviewed by the Editorial Board. The Journal then contacts the author(s) to submit their comments within two weeks. If the journal does not receive any response from the author within the specified time, it requests the investigation of the claim by contacting the university to which the author is affiliated. The journal will take the following serious precautions against published articles that are found to contain plagiarism.
1. The journal will immediately contact the university to which the author(s) are affiliated, in order to take final action against the related author.
2. The journal will remove the PDF copy of the published article from its website and disable all links to the full-text article. The phrase Plagiarized Article will be added to the title of the published article.
3. The journal will disable the author's account and reject all future submissions by the author for a period of 3 years.
This journal checks for plagiarism
Submitted manuscripts that pass preliminary control are scanned for plagiarism using TURNITIN software. If plagiarism/self-plagiarism will be found authors will be informed. Editors may resubmit the manuscript for similarity check at any peer-review or production stage if required. High similarity scores may lead to rejection of a manuscript before and even after acceptance. The percentage of similarity score taken from each article, the overall similarity score is generally expected to be less than 15%.

Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Eskiyeni is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC).

Eskiyeni does not charge any article submission, processing charges, and printing charges from the authors.
The publication process at Eskiyeni is the basis of the improvement and dissemination of information objectively and respectfully. Therefore, the procedures in this process improve the quality of the studies. Peer-reviewed studies are the ones that support and materialize the scientific method. At this point, it is of utmost importance that all parties included in the publication process (authors, readers, researchers, publisher, reviewers, and editors) comply with the standards of ethical considerations.
Eskiyeni expects all parties to hold the following ethical responsibilities. List of references, financial support; No plagiarism, no fraudulent data; forbidden to publish same research in more than one journal.

Plagiarism Detection
Eskiyeni uses double-blind review fulfilled by at least two reviewers. In addition, all articles are checked by TURNITIN in order to confirm they are not published before and avoid plagiarism. The peer-review process is at the heart of the success of scientific publishing. As part of our commitment to the protection and enhancement of the peer review process, Eskiyeni has an obligation to assist the scientific community in all aspects of publishing ethics, especially in cases of (suspected) duplicate submission or plagiarism. The study is reviewed by the editor for compliance with the journal publication principles, academic writing rules, and the ISNAD Citation Style and it is scanned about plagiarism by using the TURNITIN program. Placenta similarity rate to be less than %15 condition required. This review is completed in a maximum of 15 days.
Section Editor Review:
The study which was carried out Preliminary Examination and Plagiarism Screening is examined by the related section editor in terms of problematic and academic language style. This review is completed in a maximum of 15 days.
Referee Process (Academic Evaluation):
The study, which is subjected to review by the section editor, is submitted to the evaluation of at least two referees who has a doctoral thesis, book or article. The arbitration process is carried out confidentially within the framework of double-sided blind arbitration. The referee is required to present his / her opinion about the reviewed study either on the text or to justify it with an explanation of at least 150 words on the online referee form. The author is given the right to defend his / her objections and opinions if he/she does not agree with the opinion of the referee. The field editor provides mutual communication between the author and the referee while maintaining confidentiality. If both of the referee reports are positive, the study is submitted to the Editorial Board with a proposal for the evaluation of its publication. In case one of the two judges declares a negative opinion, the study is sent to a third referee. The studies can be published at least two positive decisions. Translated articles are sent to language and related field experts to assess the appropriateness of the original, the proper use of space concepts, and language. The translation which the experts’ stated negative opinions are not published. The publication of book and symposium reviews and dissertation abstracts is decided as a result of the evaluation of the related field editors.
Correction Phase:
In the case of referees requesting proofreading in the text that they are examining, relevant reports are sent to the author and they are asked to correct them. The correction is requested to be completed within 10 days. The author presents his corrections by specifying a red color to the section editor.
Section Editor Control:
The field editor checks whether the author makes the corrections requested in the text. The inspection process is completed within a maximum of 5 days.
Referee Control:
The referee who requests correction checks whether the author has made any corrections requested from him in the text. The inspection process is completed within a maximum of 7 days.
Preparing Extended Summary:
After the referee evaluation, it is requested to expand the abstract part of the articles to 500-600 words.
Turkish Language Control:
The works which are passed through the referees are examined by Language Editor and if necessary the author is asked for correction. The inspection process is completed within a maximum of 15 days.
English Language Control:
The works which are passed through the Turkish Language Control are examined by English Language Editor and if necessary the author is asked for correction. The inspection process is completed within a maximum of 15 days.
Editorial Board Review:
The works which are passed through technical, academic, and linguistic examination, final broadcast status is decided with review of Editorial Board. In case of objection from the members, the Board shall decide by majority vote.
Typesetting and Layout:
The works which decided to be published by the Editorial Board, are made ready for publication by making the typesetting and layout of the works.
Data Transmission to National and International Indexes:
The printed copies of the published issue shall be submitted to local and external reference libraries within 60 days at the latest; article metadata is transmitted to related Indexes within 15 days.

Price Policy
There are NO PUBLICATION FEES (article processing charges, editorial processing charges, language editing fees, colour charges, submission fees, page charges, membership fees, print subscription costs, other supplementary charges, all other charges) to publish with this journal. All expenses of the journal are covered by Publisher.
